Where can we visit in a very crowded city like Istanbul in a day? There are so many places to visit in this city, which is built on two continents and has a huge historical culture. Where can we visit in a day for those with limited time. We have prepared a program for this. It is necessary to act fast in this program, which you can see the places we wrote. You can see only some of them if you move slowly.

 

Hippodrome

The first place where we will start our tour will be Hippodrome from Sultanahmet square.It is known as Sultanahmet Square or Hippodrome Horse Square. It was done in the Byzantine period. There is not much to see today as a hippodrome. Only the Obelisk, the Serpentine Column and the German Fountain are located in the Hippodrome square. You can visit these places in 40 minutes on foot. After leaving Hippodrome, let's go to the nearest Sultanahmet Blue mosque.

 

Blue Mosque

Blue Mosque is the only mosque with six minarets in Istanbul. It is called blue because Iznik tiles in blue color are used in the interior decoration of the mosque. It is one of the most beautiful and largest mosques in Istanbul. You can visit the blue mosque in 30 minutes. After leaving the Sultanahmet mosque, let's walk towards the Hagia Sophia museum right in front of us.

 

Hagia Sophia

Hagia Sophia muesum is a very important work that has survived from Byzantium to the present day. It has the largest dome of its era. It served like a church, a cathedral and a mosque. Today it continues to serve as a museum. It is enough to stay in this museum for 45 minutes. After leaving the Hagia Sophia, let's go to Topkapı Palace on foot, it is about 10 minutes walking distance.

 

Topkapı Palace

A magnificent palace where the Ottoman sultans lived. Sultans' living rooms, clothes, work items, weapons and others are places to be seen.Topkapı Palace has hosted 22 different Sultans and their families and the political center of the Ottoman empire for 400 years. You need minimum 1 hour for visiting to Topkapı Palace. After Topkapı palace you can have a litte break for lunch.

 

Basilica Cistern

After lunch we can go to for visit Underground Basilica Cistern. It is a water reservoir built in the Byzantine era, which accumulates the water that Istanbul needs. Basilica Cistern looks like a perfect palace made of smooth and polished marble. According to those who say, this is a structure far beyond a normal cistern. And in many science fiction and history films, roles have been taken from this structure. You can visit Basilica Cistern about in 20 minutes. After we can walk to Grand Bazaar, it is about 20 minutes walking distance.

 

Grand Bazaar

Grand Bazaar is the world's largest indoor bazaar with more than 60 streets, 4,000 shops and 18 doors. Although it is over 550 years old, it still operates very actively. When you step inside, you will feel an authentic oriental atmosphere. In general, all streets are similar but all have different beauty. There are small shops where you can find all kinds of souvenirs, leather clothing, rugs and carpets, antiques, gold, silver, jewelery, crafts, spices and Turkish delight. You can visit Grand bazaar in 1 hour. After Grand bazaar we can walk to Egyptian (Spice) bazaar, it is about 20 minutes walking distance.

 

Egyptian Bazaar

Egyptian (Spice) Bazaar was put into service in 1664. The bazaar, which is part of the New Mosque, hires charity activities including schools, baths and hospitals, as well as shops that support the maintenance of the mosque. It has been the most active shopping center of the people of Istanbul with its 400 years of history. Here you can find exotic flavors and a wide variety of spices. It includes a wide variety of shops such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, Turkish delight, Turkish coffee, gold, silver, flowers, honey, cheese, olives, olive oil and textiles. This is a very interesting and must-see historical place for everyone. You need 30 minutes visiting in the bazaar. After bazaar we walk to Eminönü sea port for Bosphorus boat. It takes 10 minutes from Spice bazaar to port.

 

Bosphorus
